In Little White Lie, Lacey pieces together her family history, the story of her complex identity and her process of overcoming collective denial and learning to tell the truth using home videos, archival footage, interviews, and episodes from her own life. Coming at a moment when the political dialogue on race has reached a fever pitch, Little White Lie confronts a complicated upbringing and asks the questions: Who gets to be black or white? Is race inherited or constructed? Can we choose a family that doesn’t look like us, and will they ever be able to understand who we are?

Little White Lie has shown at over 300 film festivals, universities, conferences, and community screenings, had a theatrical release with AMC Independent and Laemmle Theaters, has been distributed worldwide, including post-screening discussions with Lacey in Brazil, India, Israel, Taiwan, and Mexico, and is now available on iTunes and Amazon prime. Little White Lie premiered on PBS’ Independent Lens in 2015, with the highest rating of the season, one of the highest series ratings ever and the highest for NY’s WNET in 10 years. The film reached #3 on the iTunes documentary list.

The film won awards at 4 festivals and it was also chosen to be one of eight films to participate in the Sundance Institute’s Film Forward program on advancing cultural dialogue, and chosen by USC and the US State Department to be a part of the American Film Showcase to travel to a variety of different countries to talk about identity and family. Little White Lie is currently in development with writer Allison Abner and Sony Studios for the movie to become a scripted series. Lacey is executive producing the series along with Gabrielle Union, Holly Shakoor Fleisher, and Mehret.
